Newrest USA is a global hospitality services provider specializing in airline catering, rail dining, retail concessions, and remote site support services. This project was a tenant improvement to transform an existing warehouse into a state-of-the-art food production facility servicing Delta Airlines&#8217; operations at Salt Lake City International Airport. The renovation featured sophisticated box-in-box construction for temperature-controlled environments, including industrial coolers and freezers designed for optimal food safety and energy efficiency. The facility encompasses multiple specialized zones: commercial food preparation areas, industrial washing stations, climate-controlled warehouse space, and dedicated storage for dry goods and equipment. Employee amenities include a full-service cafeteria and modern locker room facilities.

Newrest USA Delta Airlines SLC Catering Facility

This greenfield facility for California Dairies, Inc. (CDI) is the first dairy processing plant built in California since 2018. The plant produces Extended Shelf Life (ESL) and Aseptic Ultra High Temperature (UHT) dairy beverages, a first in CDI&#8217;s history. The facility features advanced robotics and energy-efficient technologies including solar panels and microgrid technology. Initial operations include three processing lines producing conventional ESL and UHT dairy products and processing an estimated 116,000 gallons of milk daily. CDI&#8217;s strategic growth plan includes multiple phases to expand to 10-12 processing and filling production lines, tripling capacity to process up to 600,000 gallons of fresh local milk daily.

Bakersfield, CA

Valley Natural Beverages Milk Processing Plant

This three-story temple features a steel frame and concrete shear wall structure with a full basement and a central multilevel spire topped with an angel Moroni statue. Interior spaces include training rooms, dressing rooms, offices, waiting areas, six sealing rooms, four instruction rooms, and a baptistry. The exterior combines ornamental glass windows with likenesses of local flora and coral-beige-toned architectural precast panels that complement the surrounding desert landscape. The grounds feature a palm tree-lined entrance boulevard and a grand plaza with multiple water features, shade structures, and drought-resistant plantings. Big-D self-performed the structural concrete work on the project.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Red Cliffs Temple

This renovation transformed an existing pre-engineered metal building into a regional office for MMR Group. The building underwent complete interior demolition followed by installation of all new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including under-slab plumbing work below the warehouse floor. A key architectural enhancement was the addition of a partial second floor that now serves as the main office area, featuring new windows for improved natural lighting. The second floor houses conference rooms, a training room, private offices, fitness center, employee break room, and support spaces. A visually distinctive main entrance was constructed with a slanted awning and modern storefront design. Site improvements included security fence removal, landscaping overhaul to improve street visibility, and significant parking expansion utilizing a StormTec drain system beneath the newly asphalted surface.

Commercial

MMR Group Regional Office

This project included a two-story addition on the west side of the existing Clinical Neurosciences Center along with renovation of existing clinical space on Level 2. The addition accommodated essential support functions including break rooms, locker rooms, storage areas, and shelled space for future expansion. The renovation created a second neuro interventional radiology suite equipped with bi-plane technology, requiring demolition of existing functional space. The scope also included refurbishment of AHU 5 serving parts of Level 2 and Level 3, necessitating temporary air handling units during construction. Work was executed in three carefully coordinated phases within an active hospital environment, requiring strict adherence to infection control risk assessment protocols and alternate life safety measures to ensure uninterrupted patient care operations.

University of Utah CNC Neuro IR Suite Addition

This design-build project encompassed core and shell construction of a four-story steel-framed multi-tenant office building. The exterior incorporates aluminum storefront glazing, spandrel glass panels, and a modular metal panel cladding system, with integrated terraces on multiple floors along the west elevation. The scope included complete site development with utility infrastructure coordination, asphalt paving, and landscaping. Following core and shell completion, Big-D completed tenant improvement buildouts for Adams Wealth Advisors, ThermoFisher Scientific, and Prime International, while maintaining the remaining area as market-ready leasable space.

Logan, UT

Logan Gateway Multi-Tenant Office Building

The West Jordan Logistics Center is a new industrial park with two concrete tilt-up warehouses totaling 336,376 square feet. The buildings are constructed with 6” reinforced concrete slab foundations and warehouse floors are sealed and polished. Both structures have 32’ clear height ceilings, clerestory windows throughout for natural light, ESFR suppression systems for fire safety, six (6) glass store fronts that add aesthetic appeal, and six (6) ground level loading doors. Building 1 features 39 dock height loading doors and Building 2 has 49 total dock doors. Big-D’s scope included all associated sitework, utility coordination, and landscaping. Additionally, our concrete department self-performed the structural and site concrete for the project.

West Jordan Logistics Center

This five-story multifamily development near the historic Rio Grande Station consists of 220 affordable housing units funded by the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) program. The units are divided into 140 studio apartments and 80 one-bedroom apartments. The wood-framed structure features a distinctive exterior of varied color brick and thin brick veneers, with a 50-space parking garage on the first level. Resident amenities include a game room, lounge, fitness center, yoga room, dog washroom, and a large outdoor courtyard. A spacious community room with kitchen provides space for events and gatherings, along with a conference room for residents to work and study. Big-D self-performed the structural and site concrete work on the project.

The Nest @ Rio Grande Apartments

This outpatient ambulatory surgery center is located on the Intermountain Health TOSH campus. The two-story steel-framed building features a masonry exterior with metal panel accents and a full-height glass curtain wall entrance. Spaces include eight operating rooms, 10 post-anesthesia recovery stations, 20 prep and recovery bays, sterile prep and decontamination rooms, and associated support areas for staff and patients. The ASC also features a recovery hotel with 15 guest rooms and a physical therapy gym. The curtain wall system allows generous natural light throughout the lobby, which features a large terrazzo staircase. All work was completed without interruption to the adjacent medical buildings on campus.

Murray, UT

Intermountain Health Salt Lake Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center

This two-story, steel-framed office building houses District departments and provides space for board meetings and teacher training. The structure features concrete shear walls and an exterior of masonry veneer, metal panel walls, and a curtain wall system with electrochromic glass. A rooftop PV solar array helps power the building. The project also includes a two-level, 220-stall parking garage with a perforated metal panel facade where parking is above grade. Interior spaces include private offices, conference rooms, classrooms, open office areas, testing rooms, team and work rooms, and a large board room that can split into smaller instructional spaces. Exterior work included a large plaza, patio area, landscaping, and surface parking.

Salt Lake City School District Administration Building

Project Pink was an ultra-fast renovation of an existing Raising Cane&#8217;s restaurant, completed in total secrecy. Raising Cane&#8217;s partnered with rapper Post Malone, who designed every aspect of this one-of-a-kind location. Under a strict non-disclosure agreement, Big-D embarked on this adventure just weeks prior to its unveiling. The scope included a complete redesign of the dining room, restrooms, building exterior, and landscaping. To achieve the solid pink appearance, crews applied full vinyl wrap to exterior and interior walls and repainted the drive-thru canopy, menu boards, site concrete, patio canopy, and furniture. New flooring was installed throughout, and electrical work included modifications to lighting, ceiling fans, and backlighting for a wall-mounted ping pong ball track system. Restrooms were remodeled in a medieval theme, and personal items from Post Malone were installed as artful displays. Construction was concealed by scaffolding and exterior tenting, with major portions of the work completed at night or while the restaurant was closed.

Raising Cane’s Post Malone “Project Pink”

This tilt-up concrete warehouse was constructed on a slab-on-grade foundation with spread footings and continuous wall foundations. The building is divided for dual occupancy: O.C. Tanner occupies approximately half with warehouse space and fully built-out offices, while the remaining portion provides speculative warehouse and office space for lease. The scope included installation of owner-furnished racking systems in O.C. Tanner&#8217;s warehouse area and complete tenant improvements for their office space. Site work consisted of cut-and-fill grading operations, utility coordination and installation, and construction of paved surfaces including loading areas, drive lanes, and parking.

O.C. Tanner Warehouse

This wrap-style multifamily project features a five-story, wood-framed building with a brick and stucco exterior. The 243 units range from studios to two-bedroom apartments with elevated finishes throughout, served by a multi-level, partially subgrade parking structure accommodating 318 residents. Resident amenities include a lounge and clubroom with co-working spaces, leasing office, package lockers, fitness center, and bike storage on the lower garage level. Exterior work included a central community courtyard with pool and spa as well as landscaping and associated site improvements.

Momentum Apartments

This small expansion to the McKay-Dee Hospital Cancer Center added a second linear accelerator (LINAC) vault along with associated support space. The scope included minor renovations to the existing LINAC support area and connections to the hospital&#8217;s mechanical system. The exterior facade blends sandstone cladding, both salvaged from the existing vault and new, with metal panels matching the hospital and EIFS. Notable elements included construction of complex radiation shielding and installation of a heavy-duty shielded bi-parting door. The project required a specific phasing plan to coordinate with a simultaneous PET-CT relocation project and close collaboration with the owner&#8217;s equipment vendor.

Ogden, UT

McKay-Dee Hospital Cancer Center LINAC Addition

This project included two concurrent renovations on the McKay-Dee Hospital campus: a 29,400-square-foot major interior renovation to the first-floor Cancer Center and a 12,000-square-foot remodel to the Harrison Depot auxiliary building across the street. The Cancer Center work consolidated and expanded cancer-related services into a more efficient layout. The remodeled space includes a chemotherapy infusion area with bays and private rooms, clinic space, an infusion pharmacy, imaging rooms, a Lutathera treatment room, and a community pharmacy. The Harrison Depot renovation reconfigured the existing layout to create offices, team rooms, an improved break room, and support spaces. Both projects required careful coordination to maintain Cancer Center operations throughout construction, minimizing impacts to patients, staff, and visitors.

McKay-Dee Hospital Cancer Center Renovation

This warehouse and distribution facility features tilt-up concrete construction with a multi-colored painted exterior accented by metal panels. The building includes 22 dock doors, a two-story 7,200-square-foot office, dry goods storage, and an 11,500-square-foot shell space reserved for future tenant buildout. Sophisticated temperature-controlled environments were central to the project, with 35,100 square feet of conditioned space including a 16,000-square-foot cold dock maintained at 40 degrees. Three distinct temperature zones ranging from 36 to 50 degrees accommodate varying produce storage and ripening requirements. Big-D self-performed all concrete work, including site and structural components. The scope also encompassed complete site development with utilities, paving, and landscaping.
