Kennecott Mine Truck Shop Expansion

The Kennecott Truck Shop Expansion was an addition to an existing maintenance facility, also constructed by Big-D Construction. The 106,000-sf expansion extended both ends of the existing shop structure, providing additional space for vehicle repair and maintenance and administrative offices. The addition included 12 service and repair bays with four overhead cranes, two tire service bays, and 16 new offices. This facility was designed to accommodate ultra-heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including Kennecott’s 300-ton dump trucks, which are as tall as a two-story building. The scope of work also included construction of additional warehouse space for parts storage. The project was completed utilizing the CM/GC delivery method and Big-D collaborated with the Design Team and Owner from preconstruction to closeout.
